Clayton questions Lomotey’s contract

New SU board chairman, others unsure if SU chancellor should have guaranteed deal

Newly elected Board of Supervisors chairman Tony Clayton and certain board members are unsure if current Baton Rouge campus chancellor, Kofi Lomotey, should have a guaranteed three-or four-year contract. Clayton, who was unopposed for the position after immediate past chairman Myron Lawson decided not to seek re-election, was likened to president-elect Barack Obama by Lawson, a compliment Clayton said was “pushing it.” Full story

Weems slated to speak

Renita J. Weems, a biblical scholar, writer and ordained minister will give the graduation address Friday, December 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the F. G. Clark Activity Center. During the 1990s, Weems was a columnist for Essence Magazine where her popularity as an authority on spiritual texts widened. Full story

NEW ORLEANS—After Southern came out of the tunnel dawning new columbia blue Bayou Classic jerseys and seniors Glenn Bell, Joseph Selders and Vince Lands made their way to midfield for the coin toss, it was apparent there was a sense of urgency. A sense of urgency that time was coming to an end. A sense of urgency that this could possibly be their last game in those blue jerseys, a sense of urgency that their college careers could be coming to an end sooner than expected if the Jaguars didn’t emerge victorious.
